To paraphrase dictionary definition means a restatement of a text or passage giving the meaning in another form, as for clearness; rewording. A paraphrase often uses a lot more words in an effort to more fully describe the meaning of the words coming from the original language. This helps readers to easily perceive additional shades of meaning they might otherwise struggle to see in a standard translation.

The English is years old, dating to the original publishing date of Many of the Bible verses you remember best are still from the KJV. But —in spite of the outdated language- the KJV remains the most popular Bible in the English-speaking world. My pastor —and quite a few other pastors- use the NKJV as the official version at church for Sunday services.
And why not? The Interlinear is a literal word-for-word translation showing words from the original text in the source language along with the exact word from the target language that corresponds to it. The grammar of the source language is conserved, so it is awkward to read in the target language. Still, the Interlinear is valuable to really serious Bible students who want to gain a deeper understanding.

These Bibles are not quite important for serious study as Word-for-Word Bibles, but they have developed an excellent following among many Bible students as secondary sources. The GWT seeks to translate as if it is the first-ever translation of the Bible into English —using fresh, original language. Many of the best and most ancient Hebrew and Greek manuscripts of Bible books have been discovered since , so the KJV could not make use of them.
In many cases, it is helpful to read and study the KJV alongside another more recent translation. It is presented as a Bible more for personal reading than for study or public reading. The Message is often useful to read side by side with other, more word-for-word translations. The New Testament was revised in , shifting more toward a word-for-word or formal translation. The full Bible with a newly revised translation of the Old Testament and extensive notes was released in as the New American Bible, Revised Edition.
Because of this, the NASB is a good version to use in Bible study where one is concerned with the form of the original Hebrew and Greek. The most recent edition of the NASB was published in It was revised in and again in A blend of form-based and meaning-based translation types, the NIV is one of the most popular English Bibles in use today.
