Some folks pull the material tight down over the edge of the table to help crease it as they sew. There are also places that sell attachments sort of similar to the binder that roll the edge of the material different amounts. I have not tried one but would like to. Looks like a good idea to me I think AM Apparel supply has them. I have tried "hemmers" but find them very inaccurate. I'm sure that experience would solve that problem, but the fabrics we use Sunbrella and Sailcloth fold so well that I just never thought the hemmer necessary.

I guess that is a fairly good reason why Sailrite has not stocked and sold them! I agree Jim that Sunbrella is good and "starchy" which makes it fold nicely Would a hemmer be worth using on some of those?? I've been wanting to try one. I can't imagine anything would be less accurate than free-hand folding. Also, if the hemmer turns it under rather than up I think that would sew better.

Let me know if you find it helpful -- we can always add hemmers to the Catalog. Pre-treat heavily stained areas with appropriate stain remover. Machine wash in cold water on delicate, using normal amounts of mild laundry detergent.

We really like this method because it is great for bigger projects and is pretty foolproof. For a different approach, score area of the fabric that will become the crease before you even fold it over. To do this, mark a line on your fabric where the crease of the fold should go. Then using the end of a small screwdriver, gently score a line on the fabric all along the intended crease. This method is great for larger projects and helps keep your fold neat and aligned.
