Officially known as the Republic of Turkey, this nation which occupies some , square miles, is home to an estimated population of 80,, residents from various ethnic backgrounds including Turks, Arabs, Kurds, and Lazi.

Chief among those who call this nation home include members of the Greek, Armenian, Jewish, Albanian, Chechen, and Circassian communities. Turkey has a long history dating back to ancient times. According to the fifth book of the Christian New Testament Acts of the Apostles the Turkish city of what is now known as Antakya served as the home of the very first community of Christians. Later in its history, the country became part of the Ottoman Empire. Although the nation was neutral through most of World War II it joined the Allies in and became a member of the United Nations later that same year.

Formally known as the Hellenic Republic, Greece occupies a land area of 50, square miles. It is made up of 24 islands, four of which have permanent populations. These four islands are Skyros, Alonnisos, Skopelos, Skiathos. The island group is made up of islands, with Naxos as the largest island and Syros the most populous one. The climate of the northern portion of the Aegean Sea can be classified as cold semi-arid, characterized by cooler summers. The weather in the Aegean basin is mainly influenced by the Etesian wind. Before the Aegean coastline formed, the water levels were about meters lower. Some of the islands, such as the Milos, were still linked to the mainland.

The present-day coastline may have appeared around BCE. The Bronze Age civilization resulted in stunning artworks, complex buildings, and extensive trade networks. Several Greek cities emerged between the 8th and 6th centuries, notable ones including Sparta, Athens, Thebes, and Corinth. These cities were close to the Aegean Sea. After Alexander the Great's death, his generals divided the kingdom among themselves, making it easier for the Roman Empire to conquer some of them.

The subsequent fall of the Roman Empire gave way for the Byzantine Empire to dominate the Aegean Sea up to around the 14th century. Subsequently, Turkey and Greece took over the control of the sea, with each country resuming its present-day border. The Aegean islands and mainland coast are inhabited mainly by Turkish and Greek populations. The settlements are located along the coast, while the islands host some of the largest towns and cities.

Athens is the largest city located near the Aegean Sea, with a population of approximately 3. It is connected to the Greek islands by the Port of Piraeus. The Aegean Sea is an ocean located between Greece and Turkey.

It was the cradle of great civilizations such as Greta and Greece , from which the largest and most important modern western culture is derived. In ancient times, the ocean was the birthplace of two ancient civilizations: the Minoans of Crete and the Mycenaean civilization of the Peloponnese. Then, state cities of Athens and Sparta arose, among many others that constituted the Athenian Empire and the Hellenic Civilization. In other words, there were three different regions covered by the name, Aegean Civilization: Crete, the Cyclades and the Greek continent.
